The Story:
In contrast to the first and third novels, the scope of this story is much narrower, spanning the events that
occur over the course of a matter of months. Nola and Heath have been reunited, but all is not well: Heath is
tormented by the truth of his birth, by nightmares, by all that the family has endured; Nola is "freaked out"
about being with her son, who harbours such resentment toward her and Chloe, and is heartbroken to have lost
Ralph.
