Several readers have been kind enough to write me with their comments and thoughts regarding Karnival. From my perspective, while I have been pleased with what professional reviewers have had to say, nothing compares to hearing from my readers!!

Below, I have collected some of my favourite comments - mm          Updated: 24 November 2003

This correspondence from DG in Mississagua, ON will likely remain a favourite for years:

Email 1 (after reading the first chapter): I was so disturbed that I had to hide the book in the garage under stuff and burn candles and sage in the bedroom where I was reading it!! I found the first part very upsetting ... I was too traumatized to really enjoy it. I am very interested to see what happens to Nola, so when I am ready, I will retrieve it from the garage, light my candles and start again!!

Email 2 (received ten days after the first): I finished your book and I must say I really enjoyed it. I only wish that Nola had been in it more right throughout the book, so I could have gotten to know her and her life better. I like the way it all tied together so beautifully at the end ... It was a very interesting and unique book - I haven't read anything like that before - well done. I'm sure it will do really well.

For those of you who feel the same re Nola, you'll be happy to know that she is "writing" the first sequel as you read this - mm

"I liked the way all the characters were REAL, with real motivations, drives, concerns, and flaws. None of their actions seemed random or forced; they were real people. ... You were able to show a group of damaged people, shunned by society, and present them in a way that not only showed their caring and compassionate nature, but did so in a believable manner." - J.M. Redmond WA

"I really enjoyed your novel ... it's a great book and you must be (should be) proud!!" - C.L. Toronto

"Wow. I loved it ... You deserve every mouthful of praise you will undoubtedly get." - L.S. Toronto

"One of the best books i have read. i was instantly captivated, transported to that world and i didn't want to leave. i felt as madam isis after she left her body, floating, unseen, in the midst of these people that made that world, observing as events unfolded before me. each character felt real, and by the end i felt as if i had become as friends with them, yet there was still so much more to discover. The ending was incredible, bringing everything together and yet allowing for more to be learned and to happen. The only thing about the ending of the book that was not magnificent was just that...it ended." - S.N. Smithburg WVA

"i'm reading karnival and enjoying every page thoroughly ... what great writing, amazing setting and super pacing...... bravo!" - A.H. Toronto ON

"WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" - E. Toronto

"WOW!!!!!!! You are a very fantastic writer. Those last 20 pages are particularly insightful. I feel you imparted wisdom to people in a way that they can accept." - S.M. Smithburg, WVA

"I really really liked Karnival ... I am quite looking forward to these stories (Belladonna) and I'll be sure to hit the bookstores as soon as they are there!" - R-A.M. Toronto
